The subject header that Barry chose "Notepad bug makes it unusable" is rather amusing, it doesn't make Notepad unusable, but to give credit to Barry it could be classed as a bug, but only a minor bug, not one that makes Notepad unusable. Notepad is still a supported product, over the years it has had several

Interesting Notepad BUG
Actually Notepad is only one of the very few applications generating a BOM for UTF-8. Personally I think this creates more problems that it solves. UTF-8 was designed for ASCII compatibility. Adding a BOM is a step in the other direction. From my application I need to detect if a file is UTF-8 or not - I guess that

Voila, now the line that got elongated in the 1-line view with word wrap off will get automatically parsed when you turn word wrap back on. Good, then Microsoft should be able to fix the bug easily by implementing the toggle programmatically. It should be in the next Windows update.

Check the about box by pressing the Portfolio icon button. Problems like this were associated with 1.0. If you are using 1.0.1, is this reproducible? I have not heard about this bug before. (mumble, mumble; sound of foot being pulled out of mouth). Sorry, you're right. We're still on 1.0.

This was under NT 3.51, though - maybe this bug has been fixed. However, since notepad is not much more than a glorified edit control with save and load, it would have been hard for anyone to screw it up. That's not to say such a bug is totally inconceivable, though. Heath.
